Now here's a true classic, given some very nice treatment by Zen Studios. This is the first table in quite a while where I can't think of any major bugs or glitches that reduce enjoyment of the game; let's hope they keep this up.
Pros:
- I really enjoy the modes on this game - all of them can be completed and the game incentivizes you to complete them with artifacts and higher scores during final frontier. The missions are also relatively easy and clear to start and complete, especially compared to the average Zen original.
- Great multiball where the cannon shots score and permanently increase your jackpots. While this can become a bit ridiculous later in the game, it's a great concept that keeps going for multiball a valid strategy even as you stockpile artifacts.
- There is *nothing* more satisfying than repeatedly looping the left orbit and side ramp in what the game calls the "Picard Maneuver", especially early in the game where you can very quickly advance warp factors by doing this.
Cons:
- Some of the scoring is a little off; outside of multiball becoming overpowered as I brought up, super spinner (10M per spin) is pretty massive. Not to mention the potential for unlimited 50Ms from shooting the right ramp, nudge passing, and shooting the right ramp again.
- Shuttle simulation is the same pattern every time, so you can just memorize a single sequence and consistently get over 100M and even an extra ball early on.
- Those damn kickback targets...
Overall, a 4/5, but primarily because there was nothing like it at the time, and even now thanks to how quick the game plays. It helps that Zen's emulation is free of bugs or glitches. Definitely worth looking into.
